| Deputy head of UK right-wing party probed by ‘antisemitic’ watchdog for not declaring pro-Israel interest |

The deputy leader of Britain’s right-wing Reform UK party, Richard Tice, is under investigation over a possible failure to declare an interest, a parliamentary watchdog says, three months after it opened an inquiry into the party’s leader. Tice says that the investigation is over whether he should have declared the interest at the start of a debate on UK democracy and Israeli influence, and says it is based on a complaint by an “antisemitic anti-Israel lobby group.” Tice’s list of registered interests includes a trip to Israel last September. The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards does not go into details on the investigation, but says it relates to rule six of the parliamentary code of conduct, which states: “Members [of parliament] must always be open and frank in declaring any relevant interest in any proceeding of the House or its Committees, and in any communications with Ministers, Members, public officials or public office holders.” An investigation by the commissioner does not mean that rules have been broken. |

US President Donald Trump on Monday said that Washington and Tehran were currently engaged in talks, pushing back on Iranian claims to the contrary and accusing the Islamic Republic of being “unbelievably duplicitous.” Trump lashed out at Iran and insisted that negotiations over reopening the Strait of Hormuz had already begun and that more were scheduled imminently. “Iranian Leadership is unbelievably duplicitous! They ask for a meeting, some would say ‘beg.’ Talks begin, with more scheduled in the immediate future, and they say, openly and proudly, that they’re not having any discussions, that nothing is being talked about, and they’re only dealing with Oman,” Trump wrote. “They then go on to give their usual blather in saying, the Strait of Hormuz will be operated powerfully by them, when it is already completely controlled by the United States Navy and our blockade,” the US president asserted. “Nothing gets through to Iran, unless we want it to, and nothing will get through unless a deal or total surrender is accomplished,” Trump added. “Whether Iran wants to admit it or not we are, in fact, talking of a solution to a problem that they have caused for decades,” he continued. “It is very simple, IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!” |

The tzibbur is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 21-year-old bochur Meir Shaar z”l, a yeshiva student at Ponevezh Yeshiva, who was killed Monday evening when the off-road RZR vehicle he was riding overturned near Neve Erez. The tragedy comes just weeks after his engagement, as preparations for his upcoming wedding were underway. Meir z”l, the son of Rav Avraham Harel Shaar, was widely admired for his diligence in learning and his refined character. After studying at Ponevezh for younger students, he continued in the senior yeshiva, where he earned a reputation as an exceptional bochur. He also devoted time to outreach work through the Or Yisraeli youth movement, helping bring other young Jews closer to Torah. Emergency volunteers arrived to find him with severe head injuries and no signs of life. Despite extensive resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Another young man travelling with him sustained light injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. The circumstances of the accident remain under investigation. | Hamas tells mediators Israeli airstrikes derailing Gaza plan |

A Hamas official tells Al Jazeera that a US-backed plan for the group to disarm and Israel’s military to pull out of Gaza will be hampered unless Israel halts what appears to be a stepped-up campaign of airstrikes in the Strip. The official says the group has contacted mediators and urged them to intervene directly to compel Israel to completely cease its military operations in Gaza. “We made it clear to the mediators that the continued attacks will disrupt the implementation of the agreement and the negotiations over its timeline,” the Hamas source says. The demand comes after Hamas agreed late last week to a Board of Peace roadmap for the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Despite Hamas’s acceptance of the roadmap, Israel has pushed back, saying it won’t work so long as Hamas has arms, while carrying out nightly waves of airstrikes. According to Hamas-run authorities in Gaza, 18 people were killed in Israeli strikes over the past 24 hours, one of the highest daily death tolls reported in recent months. |

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was furious with Defense Minister Israel Katz over his live-on-television announcement yesterday that he was replacing IDF Central Command chief Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth, calling it “obscene behavior” and demanding clarification from him. Katz’s office later denies talking with Netanyahu about the subject, claiming that the Prime Minister’s Office has also denied this. Meanwhile, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir reaffirms his support for Bluth, telling him during a General Staff forum meeting, “You have my full support. You’re not going anywhere”. In any event, he will act in accordance with the chief of staff’s decisions and the needs of the IDF.” They add that Bar Kalifa has a good relationship with Bluth and is not allowing the public dispute to affect him. |
