Holiday Home Rejection Sparks Call for Greater Kiddush Hashem

While I was deeply upset to receive such a response, I also recognise that it contains an important lesson for all of us. If previous guests from our community behaved in the manner described, it represents not only a serious inconvenience to the owners but also a chilul Hashem, affecting the reputation of every frum Jew who comes afterwards.

We should always remember that our conduct reflects on the wider Jewish community. Whether we are staying in a hotel, holiday cottage or anywhere else, we have a responsibility to leave a positive impression through honesty, courtesy and respect for other people’s property.

Hello Michael,

We have had kosher guests staying at Birch End in the past. They left the house in a mess, with none of the crockery, pans and other items returned to where we had left them. Furniture had been moved and damaged, and the property required a great deal of cleaning.

We would also have had to turn around Birch End and another cottage on the same day if we accepted your booking. Previous guests overcrowded the house, even requiring a coach to transport everyone away.

Based on the information in your enquiry, we are concerned that we would face similar problems again. Regrettably, we have therefore decided not to offer Birch End to you.

Working Together for a Healthier Kehillah

More and more children are finding school difficult, and a growing number are struggling to remain within the system. We are also seeing increasing numbers of children being asked to leave school or finding themselves without a suitable educational framework.

Many good children are facing challenges both inside and outside the classroom, and the situation appears to be growing increasingly complex. How much more can our community absorb?

At the same time, more people are seeking therapy and professional support. While this can often be beneficial, the outcomes are not always sufficient. More people are also turning to medication. These trends raise important questions for all of us.

The more families we meet, the more we see the same struggles repeating themselves. Many of these challenges affect hundreds of families across the kehillah. We believe that by working together, sharing experiences and learning from one another, we can better understand and respond to the nisyonos of our generation.

There is a growing need to strengthen our systems so that they are better equipped to meet today’s challenges, rather than simply responding to one crisis after another. We must focus on building healthier foundations instead of only attempting to repair the damage afterwards.

This applies across many areas of life, including sholom bayis, chinuch, abuse, the impact of technology and financial pressures, including the consequences of living beyond one’s means.

We must invest more in creating healthy, stable and supportive families.

US President Donald Trump claimed Tuesday that the US will be striking Iran’s Pickaxe Mountain “probably pretty soon,” amid reports that Tehran has moved nuclear centrifuges, and possibly even enriched uranium, to the secretive underground enrichment site.

Trump, in a meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, clarified that those reports haven’t been confirmed before claiming that such a development “doesn’t mean anything” anyway because Iran doesn’t have access to its stockpiles of enriched uranium needed to create a bomb.

The US has claimed that Iran can’t reach the nuclear material it possesses because it is buried deep underground after US strikes on three of Iran’s nuclear sites last year. Trump insists that the US is monitoring those sites to make sure that the stockpiles are not retrieved.

Regardless, Trump declared, “We’ll be hitting that area probably pretty soon, and there’s not a thing they can do about it.”

“They’re trying to possibly reconstitute a site. We’ll hit that site. Any site where they’ve been thinking about nuclear, we’ll be hitting it very powerfully,” he added.
