US President Donald Trump threatened Wednesday to bomb one Iranian bridge or power plant in return for each attack on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, reiterating his longstanding threat to go after Iranian infrastructure as fighting has escalated in recent weeks and could reportedly further intensify in the coming days.

Disputes over management of the strait led to the collapse of a preliminary deal between the United States and Iran, and both sides have exchanged daily fire across the Middle East and threatened to escalate the conflict even further.

According to a report, the US informed Israel that it will soon deploy heavy bombers for strikes on Iran, presumably targeting fortified nuclear sites, in what would be a major escalation.

“Any time the Islamic Republic of Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether it be by Missile, Rocket, Drone, or any other device or weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT,” Trump wrote.

In response to Trump’s threat to Iran’s infrastructure, an Iranian military source cited by Tasnim news agency said Tehran would retaliate against infrastructure in the region.

The United States has informed Israel that it plans to escalate its strikes on Iran in the coming days, including the use of heavy bombers for the first time since this year’s joint US-Israeli campaign against the Islamic Republic.

According to the report, the bombers are expected to target the Pickaxe Mountain nuclear site near Qom, based on repeated threats by US President Donald Trump over the past week that the area would be hit “pretty soon.”

The close security coordination between Jerusalem and Washington is reportedly intended to allow Israel to prepare for the possibility that Iran could respond to the intensified US strikes by escalating its own attacks, including launching missiles at Israel.

Israel is at its peak level of readiness tonight following the US update, Kan reports.

Iranian missiles target Jordan, interception explosions boom over Eilat

Iran fired missiles and drones at Jordan on Wednesday, including at the Red Sea port of Aqaba, with Amman saying that they were intercepted. Explosions from some of the shoot-downs were heard in the southern Israeli city of Eilat.

It came as the United States and Iran exchanged fire across the Middle East, while officials in both nations called into question diplomatic efforts to stop the war as it threatened to again spin out of control.

The US launched an 11th night of airstrikes on the Islamic Republic overnight, hitting targets across the nation as air defense systems opened fire over the capital, Tehran. Iran’s paramilitary Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vowed retaliatory attacks would continue.

Iran responded with missile and drone fire targeting Jordan’s port city of Aqaba, once again attacking just on the doorstep of Israel. The US has been using Israel’s main Ben-Gurion International Airport and other military bases to host its refueler aircraft and has put fighter jets at bases in the country, but Iran has been hesitant to strike for fear of bringing the Israeli military back into the conflict.

Missile alert sirens sounded in Aqaba, and Jordan’s military said it intercepted four missiles in the Iranian attack, while two others fell in uninhabited areas. Plumes of smoke could be seen overhead in Aqaba in videos filmed by people in the nearby Israeli port city of Eilat, where explosions were heard from the intercepts. Jordan said it also intercepted four Iranian drones.

Lebanese PM plants flag in southern village, hailing start of ‘complete Israeli withdrawal’

Lebanon’s prime minister on Wednesday visited a battered southern village that was vacated by Israeli troops, planting a Lebanese flag at the scene and declaring that it marked the beginning of a complete Israeli withdrawal

Nawaf Salam’s appearance in Zawtar Al-Gharbiya came a day after President Joseph Aoun’s landmark White House meeting with US President Donald Trump, who promised to back the Lebanese government in its bid to claim state control across the country.

Lebanon and Israel in late June signed an agreement that called for the Lebanese military to deploy in areas in southern Lebanon where the Hezbollah terror group had a military presence and influence, and for Israel to withdraw from its declared security zone after having occupied dozens of villages.

Both sides later agreed on a pilot zone made up of a series of villages to test the implementation of the agreement. While Israeli troops have struck and conducted ground operations in those areas, they have not occupied them, but the Lebanese army has also not been there in large numbers.

The latest war between Israel and Hezbollah started March 2, after the Lebanese terror group fired rockets into Israel in to support Iran, its main backer. In response, Israel launched an aerial campaign and ground invasion in southern Lebanon.
