Clarification: Rocket Fell on Outskirts, Not in Bnei Brak I am writing to clarify a point mentioned in last week’s Jewish Blast regarding the rocket that was reported to have fallen in Bnei Brak. It is important to note that the rocket did not fall within Bnei Brak itself but rather on its outskirts. I think that there is a well-known kaballah (tradition) from the Chazon Ish zt”l that because Bnei Brak is a place of Torah, no bombs or rockets will ever fall there. This tradition is a source of great chizuk (strength) for the residents of the city and a reminder of the special protection afforded to places where Torah learning thrives. Thank you for allowing me to bring this to your attention, and I trust this clarification will be appreciated by your readership. Yeshua Zobin |

Rabbi Zvi Kogan, 28, HY”D murdered in Abu Dabi |
(COLlive) The body of Rabbi Zvi Kogan, one of the Chabad Shluchim in the United Arab Emirates, was located on Sunday. Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office condemned his death as “a criminal antisemitic terrorist attack.” The body of Rabbi Zvi Kogan, one of the Chabad Shluchim in the United Arab Emirates who was missing for 4 days, was located on Sunday, local authorities reported. He was 28. Rabbi Kogan was born on the 26th of Menachem Av 5756 (1996) to his parents, Rabbi Alexander and Etel Kogan, a Litvish haredi family living in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood in Jerusalem. In his youth, he learned in the Yeshivas Maoz Chayil in Jerusalem, Rabeinu Chaim Ozer in Bnei Brak, and Mir in Jerusalem. He then served in the Givati Brigade operational military unit of the Israel Defense Forces. Zvi and his brother Reuven Kogan became close to Chabad and began following the ways of Chassidus. They both moved to the Emirates to assist Rabbi Levi Duchman, Rabbi of the United Arab Emirates, in expanding Jewish life in the Emirates. Ever since the signing of the Abraham Accords peace deal with Israel, the Emirates has seen its Jewish population grow exponentially. There have been shuls opened, the first Jewish education center in the Gulf, and a wide selection of kosher food. In March 2022, he got married to Rivky Spielman, a Lubavitcher from Crown Heights who is the niece of Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, the Chabad Shliach who was killed in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Rabbi and Mrs. Kogan soon moved on Shlichus and lived in Abu Dhabi. She taught in the school while he operated the Rimon Kosher supermarket in Dubai, the city that drew most of the tourists and visitors. “He was a cheerful person who never said ‘no’ to anyone, always helping and assisting everyone,” a friend of his said. “Every person would leave him feeling sorted; he always knew how to guide and assist. He was a modest individual who honored his parents in a remarkable way, a truly G-d-fearing person who consistently remained humble. His trait of gratitude was well-known and admired.” This past Thursday, Rabbi Kogan went missing in the middle of the day. His vehicle was found abandoned in Al Ain, around 93 miles from Abu Dhabi. Walla news site, citing security sources, reported that Israel has information that Rabbi Kogan was being followed by Iranian intelligence. Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office and the Foreign Affairs Ministry stated: “The Israeli mission in Abu Dhabi has been in contact with the family since the beginning of the incident and continues to support them during this difficult time,” the announcement declared. “His family in Israel has also been informed.” They added, “The murder of the late Zvi Kogan is a criminal antisemitic terrorist attack. The State of Israel will act by all means and bring the criminals responsible for his death to justice.” Since the murder, Israel’s National Security Council has called on citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the United Arab Emirates. The travel warning for the country remains at Level 3 (medium threat) and was not changed following the murder. However, there is still concern that Israelis and Jews in the Emirates may be under threat, N12 reported. Rabbi Kogan is survived by his wife Rivky, his parents Rabbi Alexander and Etel Kogan of Jerusalem, siblings, and in-laws R’ Shmuel and Devorah Spielman of Crown Heights. The funeral is expected to be in Israel. Hashem Yikom Damo. |

Two years ago, Tzvi Kogan, H’yd, married Rivky Spielman of Crown Heights, the niece of HaRav Gavriel Holtzberg, H’yd, who was murdered together with his wife Rivka, H’yd, by Pakistani terrorists in Mumbai in 2008. One of Rav Kogan’s friends, Ari Katz told Ynet on Sunday morning that Tzvi, z’l, 28, wore Rav Gabi Holtzberg’s suit at at his chasunah two years ago. Ari said that before the chuppa, he said to Tzvi: ‘A chassan wears a new suit.’” “He responded with a sentence that now caused me to choke up: ‘If we die, then we’ll die Al Kiddush Hashem.’” |

United Arab Emirates arrests three suspects in murder of Chabad rabbi Zvi Kogan |
Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have arrested three people involved in the killing of Israeli-Moldovan Rabbi Zvi Kogan in the Gulf country, the Emirati Interior Ministry said on Sunday. A ministry statement did not give further details on the identity of suspects or their role in the killing, but said the ministry would use “all legal powers to respond decisively and without leniency to any actions or attempts that threaten societal stability.” Kogan, 28, who worked in the UAE for the Orthodox Jewish group Chabad, which seeks to support Jewish life for thousands of Jewish visitors and residents in the Gulf Arab state, vanished in Dubai, where he ran a kosher grocery store, on Thursday. His body was found in the Emirati city of Al Ain, which borders Oman, around 150 kilometers (93 miles) from Abu Dhabi, Israeli authorities announced early Sunday. The Ynet news site reported that Kogan’s car was found abandoned in Al Ain. It added, without citing sources, that there were signs of a struggle in the vehicle. Officials suspect a number of Uzbek citizens recruited by Iran assaulted the rabbi and later fled to Turkey, the report said. |

General election petition hits one million names in humiliating new milestone for Labour |
An online petition calling for another general election to be held has surpassed 1 million signatures after thousands more signed it every minute. The call to action was started by small business owner Michael Westwood four days ago. Mr Westwood told the Express he thinks voters feel “betrayed” by Labour and that the “promises that were told” ahead of the July election “looking nothing like” the reality. Described as Britain’s fastest-ever growing petition by commentators, the campaign has been backed by a number of political figures including Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, who said he had “never seen anything like it” after watching 750,000 signees add their names in just 24 hours. Following the one million signatures benchmark, MPs across the Right revelled in the show of discontent towards the Government. Former Tory leadership contender Robert Jenrick said: “Over a million people have now expressed their fury that Labour lied at the general election. “Starmer shamelessly said one thing to get elected and has done the complete opposite once in power. Nobody will ever trust a word he says again.” |

Report: Lebanon agreement finalized, awaiting Lebanese approval |
Israel has agreed in principle to a US-backed ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon and Prime Minister Benjamin is now working on how to present it to the public, according to multiple reports Sunday night, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held high-level consultations on the matter. The meeting came as Israel was hit by waves of rocket fire from Lebanon throughout the day and the Air Force carried out repeated strikes on Hezbollah sites in Beirut. The reports on Kan, Ynet and Haaretz, which cited officials in Jerusalem, Washington and Beirut, all noted that approval of the proposal was not final, and that several issues must still be ironed out, but that Jerusalem had okayed the main tenets of the proposal. According to Ynet, this had been conveyed to Lebanon. Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem said last week that the terror group had reviewed the truce proposal and submitted a response and that the ball was in Israel’s court. Haaretz reported that the proposal will include three stages: a truce followed by Hezbollah removing its forces north of the Litani River; an Israeli pullout from southern Lebanon; and finally, Israeli-Lebanese negotiations on demarcation of contested border areas. |

Hezbollah fires major barrage on central Israel, north |
Millions of Israelis rushed to shelters today as Hezbollah launched a significant rocket barrage targeting the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, marking one of the most intense attacks on Israel’s largest population center since hostilities escalated. The attack joined the already heavy rocket fire on the north, mainly the Safed and Haifa area, in the early hours of Sunday. At least 9 people were injured in both volleys, including 2 moderately. |
