easyJet Extends Tel Aviv Flight Ban

EasyJet said on Tuesday that it is extending its suspension of service to Tel Aviv through next summer.

The decision by Europe’s second-largest budget airline comes as major international carriers are increasingly resuming flights to Israel following the war with Iran, but mirrors a similar move by its low-cost top competitor Ryanair.

“We have taken the decision not to operate to and from Tel Aviv next summer as part of our continuous review of our flying program,” according to a statement from EasyJet. “As we are not on sale for the period, no customers’ bookings are directly impacted. We are continuing to closely monitor the situation,” the statement added.

Trump says Iran in ‘humanitarian crisis of epic proportions’ that ‘must be stopped’

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday lamented what he called a “humanitarian crisis” in Iran, saying it “must be stopped,” as he accused the Tehran regime of killing protesters and failing to pay its armed forces.

“The failing Islamic Republic of Iran is not paying large segments of their military, while at the same time killing protesters, even when they are not protesting, at levels not seen before,” he wrote on Truth Social.

It was unclear whether he was referring to the killing of thousands of protesters in January, or to new, unreported ones. He may also have been referring to executions that Iran has been steadily carrying out of some individuals arrested during the protests.

“It is a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions, and must be stopped,” Trump added.

Later, he declared — for the second time in a week — that all mines in the Strait of Hormuz have been detonated or removed.

Zamir: IDF’s hunt for Oct. 7 terrorists to go on despite calls to limit fire in Gaza

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir says the hunt for terrorists involved in the October 7, 2023, onslaught continues in the Gaza Strip, despite calls by the US-led Board of Peace to limit strikes to “immediate threats.”

“The IDF is prepared and alert on all fronts. We will not allow our enemies along the borders, with an emphasis on Gaza and Lebanon, to rebuild their strength,” Zamir says during a visit to Gaza today, according to remarks provided by the army.

“We will continue to act to weaken [Israel’s enemies] in an offensive manner and systematically. We will not allow terror infrastructure to become established. We will take every opportunity to eliminate threats as they emerge,” he continues.

Zamir says that “the pursuit of the October 7 terrorists continues. Anyone who took part in the massacre will live under pursuit until they are eliminated.”

“This is a high-priority mission to which the [Southern] Command and the entire IDF are committed,” he adds.

In recent months, the IDF has stepped up its efforts to kill Palestinian terrorists involved in October 7, justifying the strikes amid the ceasefire by claiming that the targets had “posed an immediate threat.”

A Board of Peace official said in a statement today that Israel “must comply with the ceasefire; military action cannot extend beyond responding to genuine and imminent threats.”

Police say gathering ‘identified with’ PA thwarted in Old City, after officers raid university graduation

Police announce that a “conference identified with the Palestinian Authority” in Jerusalem’s Old City was thwarted yesterday.

According to the Palestinian Authority’s Jerusalem Governorate, the event in question was a graduation ceremony for a Palestinian organization that teaches graduate students from Al-Quds University.

Four guests, including the director of the Center for Jerusalem Studies and the head of the Palestinian Jerusalem Tourism Cluster, were detained for interrogation, the governorate says.

Police say “intelligence activity by the Jerusalem District’s central unit” had uncovered the plans to hold the event “inside the Old City, in violation of the Implementation Law.”

The 1994 Law on Implementation of the Agreement on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, which enshrined agreements reached as part of the Oslo Accords, forbade the Palestinian Authority from holding gatherings on Israeli territory without permission from Israel, and authorized the public security minister to order the closure of unapproved PA gatherings in Israel.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who changed the Public Security Ministry’s name when he took it over in late 2022, signed an order to shut down the Palestinian gathering after he and top police officers reviewed the plans to hold the event, police say in a statement.

Officers arrived at the site of the gathering, where “they noticed preparations and a number of people, and informed them about the order forbidding the event,” the statement says. It does not mention any arrests.

The ceremony was set to take place in Khan Tankaz, the compound that houses the Center for Jerusalem Studies in the Muslim Quarter’s Cotton Merchants’ Market.

The Center for Jerusalem Studies, which teaches an interdisciplinary graduate program on the city, is affiliated with Al-Quds University, a nonprofit independent institution overseen by the nearby Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The university, which is the only Arab university in Jerusalem, is accredited by the Palestinian Authority but not by Israel. It was established in 1995 as a merger of other Palestinian institutions.

According to its website, the university has about 12,000 full-time students and over 700 faculty.

Police, IDF stop attempt to smuggle handguns from Jordan

An attempt to smuggle 10 handguns from Jordan into the West Bank overnight was foiled by the police and army, with two Palestinian suspects arrested.

In a statement, the Israel Police says its officers and IDF troops were dispatched to the Gesher Adam (Damia Bridge) area, after security forces identified suspicious activity indicating a smuggling attempt.

During their scans, two Palestinians from Jericho in their 20s were detained by the forces. They led the forces to a bag they had planted that contained 10 handguns, police say.

The pair were taken for further questioning, police add.
