A Russian missile barrage overnight killed at least 12 people in Kyiv as explosions echoed across Ukraine’s capital throughout the night, local authorities say. At least 33 people are wounded, according to Ukraine’s Emergency Service. Ukraine’s air force says that Russia had launched dozens of ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missiles, as well as 168 drones. It adds that air defense units downed 145 drones and most of the cruise missiles but did not down any ballistic missiles. |
| Declaring ‘economic d-day,’ Trump says any country trading with Iran will be sanctioned |

US President Donald Trump declares “ECONOMIC D-DAY” against Iran warning that any country doing business with the Islamic Republic will face “TREMENDOUS economic consequences.” “Oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, front companies — It all needs to stop NOW. You know who you are,” Trump writes in his latest Truth Social Post. Trump doesn’t elaborate on what he will do to countries that continue doing business with Iran. “No one has given the Islamic Republic of Iran a greater opportunity to make a deal than me. TRAGICALLY, for them, they have failed to take it,” he writes. On Tuesday, Trump declared that he wasn’t interested in talks with Iran, but by Wednesday, he said he’d be open to resuming them. “Therefore, today, I am announcing the MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY!” Trump says. The US president has made countless threats of devastating force and economic sanctions against Iran, only to walk those back, while claiming progress in negotiations toward a diplomatic agreement. This time, Trump insists, it “will be economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale.” “Today, I am also announcing that ANY country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face TREMENDOUS economic consequences,” he writes. “This will be an ECONOMIC D-DAY, and we need all of our allies to stand with the United States of America to isolate and defeat the Iran threat.” “These maniacs are on the ropes, and these HISTORIC MEASURES will cripple them and their ability to project terror worldwide,” he writes, without describing what the measures actually are. “IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON.” Iran has shown little indication that it is prepared to back down from its insistence on some degree of control over the Strait of Hormuz, despite Trump’s repeated threats. |

| PM’s office stresses Israel has not approved entry of international Gaza force; ‘no reconstruction before Hamas disarms’ |

The Prime Minister’s Office stresses that Israel has not yet approved the deployment of the nascent International Stabilization Force to Gaza under US President Donald Trump’s postwar plan for the Strip, following Hebrew media reports suggesting otherwise. “Contrary to media reports, the political echelon has not approved the entry of the international force to the Gaza Strip,” the statement reads, adding that “Israel has made it clear that there will not be any reconstruction in the Strip before Hamas is fully disarmed.” The statement appears to refer to footage circulated by Hebrew media earlier this week showing foreign military officers touring the Rafah area alongside IDF personnel, which some outlets described as an initial deployment of ISF troops. An official with knowledge of the matter said on Tuesday that the footage came from a “pre-deployment site survey” by senior military officers from Burundi and Uganda – the latter of which announced earlier this month that it approved the deployment of troops to Gaza as part of the ISF – amid preliminary discussions with Israel about joining the force. Israeli officials said last month that the Israeli security cabinet had voted to approve certain legal measures allowing the limited entry of the ISF under the Board of Peace-led plan for Gaza, which would include 200 troops from “friendly countries.” The plan would see the peacekeeping force deploy to Gaza to secure areas after Israeli forces withdraw, as well as assist with other security and humanitarian efforts. While Hamas agreed to the Board’s July disarmament plan, the effort has stalled as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists there will be no Israeli withdrawals until the terror group is fully disarmed. The Board is nonetheless advancing progress on the ISF, with Trump’s administration recently telling Congress it is sending more than $206 million for the force. |

| Police say fire at West Bank home was due to electrical failure, contradicting Palestinian reports of settler arson attack |
![]() |
|
Responding to reports that a home was set ablaze by settlers in the southern West Bank overnight, Israel Police says forensic investigators determined that the fire broke out due to an electrical failure, not deliberate arson. Palestinian media outlets had reported that Israeli settlers set fire to a home in Khillet al-Farra, in the South Hebron Hills. A video shows the homeowner claiming that settlers told her personally to leave the area before throwing an incendiary device through her window and setting fire to the house. In a statement, police say that arson investigators visited the site this morning and determined that a short circuit was to blame for the fire. It adds that “no remains of a fire-accelerating substance were found at the scene,” which it says is in contradiction to the reports that the fire was started deliberately by Israeli settlers. Israel Police are regularly accused of not cracking down on settler violence, and the force’s former West Bank regional chief is currently under criminal investigation for ignoring settler violence in order to curry favor in the eyes of National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir. |

| NY governor says Mamdani should focus more on New York City, less on Israel |
|
New York Governor Kathy Hochul encourages New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to focus more on the city government and less on Israel. Hochul is asked if Mamdani’s anti-Israel rhetoric could make Jewish New Yorkers uneasy. “I encourage him to — ‘Let’s focus on blocking and tackling of city government,’” she says. “That’s where I believe the main focus should be,” Hochul adds. Hochul also vows to “throw my body against any antisemitism.” Hochul is a moderate Democrat, while Mamdani is on the far left, putting them at odds on some issues, although the two have maintained a cooperative relationship. Hochul campaigned in support of Mamdani during his run for mayor. |
