Children in Moisdes: Protecting Our Future with Compassion and Understanding It’s the middle of the night and I’m awake in distress. I’m hurting: hurting for my friends and hurting for my neighbours. Hurting for my students. Hurting for their parents. Hurting for the vulnerable amongst us who are experiencing deep pain and rejection. Those who are tossing in bed wondering what are we doing wrong? What have we done wrong? Why was our child not accepted into yeshivah/high school? The answers some parents are receiving are just so confusing, humiliating and most of all deeply painful. How have we as a society let our vulnerable ones down and not stood up for them, allowing this to happen year after year after year? We teach and preach nice middos, but still select the wealthy brand names abandoning the “simple good people.” This is placing a huge toll on marriages and parent/child relationships. Parents lie awake at night, trying hard to stay strong for their children, while they are breaking inside. It is not the wealthy ones or the ones with a perfect family or the top family of Rabbanim who get rejected. It might be someone who has made an admirable courageous choice to become frum. It might be someone who has moved here alone without family. It might be someone who has come from a challenging family background, but despite that built themselves up with strength to provide a loving home from their kids and have succeeded, only to face this rejection. I beg you, governors and headteachers: The system needs to change. The excuse of “no room” is poor, when this family and that family get in. The pretence that it’s a lottery is very weak. Unless only certain names were put into the hat to start with. We have become a community who are selecting who to reject. It has become OK to let down vulnerable people. This has stop! If there is really no space – build a portacabin! If there are not enough teachers go and find them. You would do that for the families you want. With the brand names. We want the community to grow. We need to provide. Not select. Those who are reading this and feel the pain have probably felt the rejection or own the sensitivity to understand. Those who are reading it and feel “Stop being so dramatic that’s life,” are from the elite who have never felt this pain and are part of the problem. Let’s be on the side of the solution and stand up for our vulnerable ones. They should never feel less than or rejected and hopefully our children will follow. Name withheld by request |

Police looking for suspect who stole mezuzahs from London restaurant and Shul |
Authorities in London are investigating a potential antisemitic hate crime, after a masked man was seen tearing mezuzahs from the entrances of a kosher restaurant and a Chabad shul on Saturday. The suspect, dressed in a hooded jacket, approached a kosher restaurant in West Hampstead and ripped the mezuzah from its doorpost just before 7 a.m. on Saturday. Shortly afterward, he arrived at nearby Chabad shul, where he also wrenched the mezuzah from the entrance and pocketed it before walking away. Both incidents were caught on security cameras. Police have yet to locate the suspect. |

The Iranian ambassador to the United Nations, in a letter to the UN Security Council, slams “baseless accusations” and threats by senior US administration officials and President Donald Trump against Iran while trying to justify what he said were unlawful attacks against Yemen. Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani warns that “any act of aggression will have severe consequences, for which the United States will bear full responsibility.” He says Iran will “resolutely defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests under international law against any hostile action.” The US has launched a series of airstrikes against strongholds of Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels who have disrupted international maritime trade by targeting ships in the Red Sea. He urges the Security Council to speak out against the US’s “blatant provocations.” But since the US has veto power in the council, there is no chance of that happening. |

The IDF and Shin Bet security agency also confirmed on Monday that a top Hamas official was targeted and killed the previous night. Rocket sirens sounded in the Israeli community of Netiv Ha’asara near the Gaza border on Monday, but were later confirmed to have been a false alarm. |

Hamas publishes propaganda clip featuring hostages Elkana Bohbot and Yosef-Haim Ohana |
![]() |
The Hamas terror organization published a video with a sign of life from Yosef Haim Ohana and Elkana Bohbot who were abducted on October 7th, 2023, and have been held hostage for 535 days. The family of Elkana Bohbot authorized the publication of the parts of the video in which he is seen. In the video, he attacks the government and calls on released hostages to pressure the government to make a deal for his release. His family stated: “For 535 days, Elkana has been in an ongoing hell. The video shows he is in poor condition, having lost a significant amount of weight due to persistent starvation. He suffers from skin and breathing problems in addition to being asthmatic, and has not seen daylight for almost a year and a half!” They added: “This video is further proof that Elkana must return home to his family, to his wife Rivka and his son Ra’am David. Elkana is crying out for help, begging us not to forget him in the tunnel hell. The family pleaded: “We appeal and plead with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Trump – please, imagine this is your son, the father of your grandchild, waiting to see daylight, hearing IDF bombs, and living in constant fear for his life. “Every day Ra’am asks about his father. When will we be able to tell him his father is coming home? This child too trapped in a dark tunnel and in captivity.” They concluded: “The video is a sign of life, but we want Elkana alive at home and the return of everyone! It’s time to end the suffering not only of the families but of an entire nation that wants them home.” |
