After Flipping Their Car, These Bochurim Went Straight to Prison |
![]() |
Two bochurim from Yeshivas Lubavitch Toronto were traveling to read Megilah in prison when their car hit black ice and went flying through the air, landing upside down. Emerging miraculously unscathed, the bochurim quickly found a resourceful way to get to their destination. For the past 8 years, Jewish Services Canada-Chabad (JSC-Chabad) has sent out an army of dedicated yeshiva students to Canada’s Prisons to bring Joy and light to the Jews incarcerated there. Most of the prisons are located outside urban centers and deep into the wooded areas of the countryside. Some volunteers travel 3 hours each way to read Megillah to just a handful of Jews. However, this year, things took a dangerous turn. While en route, Talmudic students Shemaya and Yirmi from Yeshivas Lubavitch Toronto had a harrowing experience. The car they were traveling in hit black ice, careened off the highway and went flying through the air at high speed before landing upside down. The car was totaled. The yeshiva students however, were pulled out the rear doors completely unscathed. Nothing short of a Purim miracle. Fire rescue, EMS, and police were all on the scene and shockingly gave the volunteers a clean bill of health after a medical examination inside the ambulance. “My first concern was the health of the volunteers,” says Rabbi Michoel, the organizer of the program. The volunteers however were ready to continue their trek and finish their mission. “As adherents of the Lubavitcher Rebbe we appreciate the importance the Rebbe put on both helping bring light to institutionalized Jews and to always finish what you start,” explained Rabbi Yosef Gansburg, Educational Director at Chabad of Ontario and a regular JSC-Chabad volunteer himself. The yeshiva students grabbed whatever items they could salvage from the mangled car in order to have what they needed for the prison program. |

![]() |
President Donald Trump’s letter sent two weeks ago to Iran included a 2-month deadline to come to an agreement on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program, according to two sources who spoke with Axios Wednesday. Trump wrote to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to propose direct negotiations, the former said in an interview with Fox 2 weeks ago. A day after announcing the letter, Trump said the U.S. is “down to the final moments” with Iran. The sources said Trump’s letter to Khamenei was “tough.” |

Trump vows to ‘annihilate’ Houthis, warns Iran against support, as US strikes Yemen |
![]() |
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels “will be completely annihilated,” warning Tehran against continuing to provide aid for the group during an ongoing US military campaign against them. “Iran must stop the sending of these Supplies IMMEDIATELY. Let the Houthis fight it out themselves. Either way they lose, but this way they lose quickly,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. The American leader referred to reports that Iran “has lessened its intensity on Military Equipment and General Support” for the Houthis, though he added that “they are still sending large levels of Supplies.” “Tremendous damage has been inflicted upon the Houthi barbarians, and watch how it will get progressively worse — It’s not even a fair fight, and never will be. They will be completely annihilated!” his post continued. Shortly before Trump posted his threat to Iran and the Houthis on social media, the US military carried out a series of airstrikes on a Houthi stronghold in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa, three residents told Reuters. The strikes hit a neighborhood close to the capital’s airport, the residents said. According to the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV, “an American attack targeted the capital Sanaa… and the area of the town of Saada” in the north. It later added that strikes had also hit the district of Al-Sawadiya, southeast of Sanaa. The United States began launching heavy strikes against the Houthis on Saturday, as Washington pledged overwhelming force until the rebels stop firing on key shipping routes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. On Saturday, the Houthi-run health ministry said US strikes killed 53 people and wounded nearly 100 others. The United States has said the attacks killed several top officials. On Tuesday, the rebels took responsibility for a missile fired at Israel and intercepted, and vowed to escalate attacks, in the wake of the resumption of massive military operations in the Gaza Strip. The missile, which the Houthis said targeted an airbase, was the first reported attack on Israel from Yemen since a January 19 ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. Part of Iran’s “axis of resistance” against the United States and Israel, the Houthis have been attacking ships in the trade lane since the start of Israel’s war against the Hamas terror group in Gaza, claiming solidarity with Palestinians. Attacks by Houthis — whose slogans call for “Death to America,” “Death to Israel,” and a “curse on Jews” — have forced many vessels to take a much longer, more expensive route around Africa. Washington has pledged overwhelming force until the rebels stop firing on key shipping routes. |

NASA reveals what’s next for astronauts safely back on Earth after nine months stuck in space |
![]() |
Two NASA astronauts have splashed down off the coast of Florida after spending more than nine months stuck in space. The astronauts’ journey back from the International Space Station took 17 hours. They were only meant to be on the ISS for eight days when they blasted off from Earth on 5 June last year. They were testing out Boeing’s long-awaited Starliner – a vessel designed to rival SpaceX’s Crew Dragon, which is currently used to ferry astronauts into space. But by the time they docked at the ISS, the Starliner had suffered major problems – with five helium leaks, five dead manoeuvring thrusters and a propellant valve that failed to close completely. It returned to Earth without them after it was decided Mr Wilmore, 62, and Ms Williams, 59, would be safer waiting in orbit. During their long wait in space, the two US Navy veterans completed spacewalks, experiments and even helped sort out the plumbing onboard the ISS. The SpaceX vehicle that has brought them home arrived at the space station in September carrying NASA’s Nick Hague and cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov, along with two empty seats. The astronauts will soon be flown to their crew quarters at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston for several days of health checks, per routine for astronaut returns, before NASA flight surgeons allow them to go home to their families. Living in space for months can affect the human body in multiple ways, from muscle atrophy to possible vision impairment. |

Israel names 2 more senior Hamas members killed in recent Gaza strikes |
The IDF and Shin Bet announce that two more top Hamas officials were killed in airstrikes in the Gaza Strip over the past day. The dead include Yasser Mohammed Harb Musa, a member of Hamas’s politburo who headed the defense portfolio and ministry of development. “As part of his role, Musa handled the advancement and guidance of terror attacks against the State of Israel,” the IDF and Shin Bet say, adding that he was considered close to slain Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. The second Hamas official the IDF says it killed is Mohammed Jamasi, the chief of the terror group’s so-called emergency committee. “Over the years, Jamasi held key positions in the political bureau and the leadership of the movement and as part of his role in the war, he coordinated a significant portion of the Hamas regime’s government activity in the Gaza Strip, including the guidance of terror attacks against the State of Israel,” the statement adds. |

Israel’s Defense Minister warns: Free Hostages or Face Gaza’s Total Destruction |
Israel’s Defense Minister delivers a final warning to residents of Gaza: “The first Sinwar destroyed Gaza; the second (Mohammad Sinwar) will wipe it out completely. The only alternative is total annihilation.” |

Missiles fired from Yemen, sirens in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem |
![]() |
For the first time in two months, sirens were sounded early Thursday morning in central Israel, the Shfela region, and in Jerusalem and the surrounding area, following the firing of a missile from Yemen. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said that a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the IAF prior to crossing into Israeli territory. The sirens were sounded in accordance with protocol. Magen David Adom reported that at this stage, no reports of impacts or physical injuries have been received. It added that MDA medics and paramedics provided medical treatment to approximately 13 people injured while heading to shelter and to three individuals suffering from anxiety. During the sirens, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was evacuated from the Knesset plenum, where discussions on the Arrangements Law were taking place overnight, to the Knesset shelter. The Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for launching the missile toward Israel, asserting they fired a missile at Ben Gurion Airport. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree said the attack was carried out in response to “massacres against our brothers in the Gaza Strip. |
