A Solution for Children Without School Placements

Dear Editor,

Further to your recent letter regarding children who do not have placements within the school system, your correspondent and those to whom this is relevant may be interested to know that there is a solution that has been implemented בס”ד in Manchester, which has been modeled on an existing institution in the U.S.

This is a division of Torah Umesorah called Yaldei Yisroel and was set up specifically for this purpose-to alleviate the difficulties involved and to enable easier communication between all of the parties concerned via advocacy.

The contact details for those with a child to whom this is relevant, are [email protected]

Wishing all concerned much הצלחה in alleviating the tremendous עגמת נפש of those who find themselves in this situation,

Sincerely,
Mrs G.Levenberg
(Yaldei Yisroel, Manchester)

Iran says it’s ready to negotiate with US, but not under ‘maximum pressure’ policy
picture hole

Iran is ready to negotiate a new nuclear agreement with the United States but not under the “maximum pressure” strategy of US President Donald Trump, Tehran’s chief diplomat suggested on Saturday.

“The lifting of sanctions requires negotiations, but not within the framework of a ‘maximum pressure’ policy, because it would not be a negotiation but a form of surrender,” said Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a statement published on Telegram.

The foreign minister’s statement came after Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urged the government on Friday not to negotiate with Washington, calling such an approach “reckless.”

Khamenei, who has the final say on all strategic decisions in Iran, referred to Iran’s previous experience negotiating with the United States to justify his position, saying that negotiations with the US “are not intelligent, wise or honorable.”

In 2015, Iran struck a landmark deal with the United States, France, Germany, Britain, China and Russia to regulate its nuclear program in return for the easing of international sanctions.

However, in 2018, during his first term, Trump unilaterally withdrew the United States from the agreement and reinstated heavy sanctions on Tehran, despite European opposition, crippling the country’s economy.

Trump on Wednesday called for a “verified nuclear peace agreement” with Iran, adding that it “cannot have a nuclear weapon.”

Iran insists its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes and denies any intention to develop atomic weapons. However, the UN nuclear watchdog has said that Iran is currently enriching uranium to levels that have no civilian use, and Iran’s leaders have for many years been issuing threats to flatten entire Israeli cities.

The US president reinstated on Tuesday his “maximum pressure” policy, and Washington on Thursday announced financial sanctions on entities and individuals accused of shipping hundreds of millions of dollars worth of Iranian crude oil to China.

Aragchi said on Saturday that “Iran does not want to negotiate with a country that is simultaneously imposing new sanctions.”

OPENING A WORLD OF OPPORTUNITIES IN ISRAEL

Trump urges ending Gaza ceasefire if all hostages not released by noon Saturday
picture hole

US President Donald Trump suggested Monday that Israel end a ceasefire in Gaza and resume fighting if all remaining hostages are not freed by the end of the week, after the Hamas terror group said it was delaying the release of hostages slated for Saturday, placing fresh doubts on whether the fraught truce will hold.

Speaking to reporters, Trump conceded that Israel might want to override him on the ultimatum and the Saturday noon deadline, adding that he might speak to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. But expressed fears for the fates of those still being held captive, predicting that many would not survive if not released in the coming days.

“As far as I’m concerned, if all of the hostages aren’t returned by Saturday at 12 o’clock, I think it’s an appropriate time. I would say, cancel it and all bets are off and let hell break out. I’d say they ought to be returned by 12 o’clock on Saturday,” Trump said.

Hamas’ military wing spokesman, Abu Obeida, announced on Monday that the terrorist group would postpone the planned release of hostages, claiming that Israel had violated the terms of the agreement.

The next release of hostages, is set to take place this coming Shabbos,

The delay comes as Israel prepares to enter the second phase of the deal, which is set to take effect after the initial phase concludes later this month.

“Postponing the release of prisoners is a warning message to the occupation, and to pressure for strict adherence to the terms of the agreement,” says Hamas, referring to the hostages it took on October 7, 2023.

The terror group adds that it intentionally made the announcement five days ahead of the planned release “to give the mediators sufficient opportunity to pressure the occupation to implement its obligations, and to keep the door open to implement the exchange on time if the occupation adheres to its obligations.”

“Hamas has implemented all its obligations accurately and on time,” the terror group says in a statement.

It lays out a list of alleged Israeli violations, including delaying the return of the displaced Gazans to the northern Strip; shooting at Palestinians; blocking the entry of tents, prefabricated houses, fuel, and equipment to remove rubble; and delaying the entry of medical supplies.

An Israeli official tells the state-run Kan news broadcaster that Israel is allowing shelters into Gaza after they undergo a security check.

Hamas says it conveyed its complaints to the mediators.

Freed Hostage says “My Captors Rejoiced When They Saw The Friction Between Israelis”

Yechiel Yehud, the father of Arbel Yehud, who was released from captivity about a week and a half ago along with Gadi Mozes and Agam Berger, read a message from his daughter in a meeting of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Monday.

“I learned Arabic within a month and I heard my captors express joy over the friction among Israelis regarding the question of releasing the hostages,” Yehud stated.

“I thought they were using psychological terror on me when they said the issue of the hostages had become a political debate. I didn’t believe it until I returned to the country and was exposed to this harsh reality.”

“I was held for 482 days without seeing or hearing a single Israeli – from the time I was separated from my partner Ariel [Cunio] three hours after I was abducted – until I met Gadi [on the day of her release.] You can imagine some of the horrors I went through during my captivity, as you all saw on the day of my release.”

“Despite this, I returned focused on the goal of saving Ariel, his brother David, and all the hostages along with the long rehabilitation process awaiting me. Already on the evening of my release at Sheba, I told my father: ‘Abba, don’t give up. I need Ariel back in order to recover.’ And my father answered me: ‘I didn’t think otherwise.’”

“And I demand from you [Knesset members], like my father – don’t think otherwise. Bring everyone back in one go – the living and the dead, and don’t scare the people with the question of price. Sccare yourselves and maybe that will force you to better protect the country’s citizens in the future.”
