Wrong Information about ETA for Travelers to Israel
Hi, B’H
There are two inaccuracies in the Hamaivin Yavin letter by Mr. Meyer: Names or any other information regarding grandparents are not requested at all. The ETA application only asks for details about the parents, not grandparents. The State of Israel, by law, cannot demand or impose Israeli citizenship. Whether by virtue of birth or naturalization, citizenship cannot be made compulsory or imposed under international law—it can only be granted. There are hundreds of thousands of people residing in Chutz l’Aretz who choose not to acquire Israeli citizenship for various reasons. It is worth mentioning that until December 31, 2024 (inclusive), applications for an ETA are completely free of charge. I obtained it for my family members just last week without any cost. Ah Freilichen Chanukah, |

More than £10m worth of jewellery and designer handbags stolen from London home |
More than £10m worth of jewellery and £150,000 worth of designer handbags have been stolen from a home in London – prompting the offering of a reward. Police say the suspect broke into the house in Avenue Road, Primrose Hill, north London, between 5pm and 5.30pm on 7 December by climbing in through a second-floor window. He took Hermes Crocodile Kelly handbags, £15,000 in cash as well as items of jewellery worth £10.4m that included unique pieces, such as jewel-encrusted necklaces and bracelets. The suspect has been described as a white man in his late 20s to 30s who was wearing a dark hoodie, cargo pants and a grey baseball cap. He kept his face covered and was thought to have been carrying a weapon. The homeowners are offering a £500,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect, and a second reward of 10% of the value of the recovered items for information that leads to the retrieval of the stolen jewellery. Avenue Road is one of the most expensive streets in the UK, with an average house price of £15.2m, according to recent research by Lloyds Bank. |

Germany says Musk trying to influence election after he backs far-right party |
The German government accused US billionaire Elon Musk on Monday of trying to influence its election due in February with articles supporting the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, even though it suggested they amounted to “nonsense.” Musk, who is set to serve Donald Trump’s new US administration as an outside adviser, endorsed the AfD as Germany’s last hope in a guest opinion piece for the Welt am Sonntag newspaper that prompted the commentary editor to resign in protest. “It is indeed the case that Elon Musk is trying to influence the federal election” with X posts and the opinion piece, a German government spokesperson said. Musk is free to express his opinion, the spokesperson said, adding: “After all, freedom of opinion also covers the greatest nonsense.” Musk, the world’s richest person, has defended his right to weigh in on German politics because of his “significant investments,” and has praised the AfD’s approach to regulation, taxes and market deregulation. |

IDF says ballistic missile from Yemen was successfully downed by air defenses |
A ballistic missile launched at Israel from Yemen was successfully intercepted by Israeli air defenses, the military says. According to the IDF, the missile was shot down before crossing into Israel, and sirens sounded across central Israel due to fears of falling fragments following the interception. The attack was likely carried out by the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen. In the past month, the Houthis have fired 11 ballistic missiles and at least nine drones at Israel. |

IDF releases Hamas video of terror operatives planting bombs next to Gaza hospital |
The IDF releases footage obtained from cameras belonging to Hamas operatives, showing them planting roadside bombs next to the Indonesian Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip. According to the IDF, the bombs were planted just 45 meters from the medical center in Jabalia. The army says that during its military operation last week at the Indonesian Hospital, troops killed several terror operatives who tried to flee from the medical center. Dozens of members of terror groups were detained, and several explosive devices planted by them in the area were neutralized, the military says. The video taken by the Hamas operatives, and later found by the IDF in Gaza, shows them planting explosive devices next to the hospital. The video is not dated. “This is another example of the Hamas terror organization’s cynical use of the population and civilian institutions in the Gaza Strip for terror activity in blatant violation of international law,” the military adds. |
