British Airways flights delayed after ‘technical issue’
picture hole

A “technical issue” at British Airways has delayed flights, reportedly for thousands of passengers.

Travel journalist Simon Calder said on X: “British Airways IT system failure is causing delays of 1-2 hours on many BA flights this evening… As delays build up I fear there will be cancellations tonight/tomorrow.”
In a statement, British Airways said flights were “currently operating, but are experiencing delays” and that its teams were working to “resolve a technical issue affecting some of our systems”.

Earlier media reports suggested dozens of flights were grounded and that communications systems were affected.

One X user pictured people queueing on the tarmac in Verona, Italy. “What has happened to the nations airline? Not fit for purpose,” they said.

Warning retail job cuts ‘inevitable’ after Budget
picture hole

High Street job losses are “inevitable”, prices will rise, and shops will close as the result of the tax increases in the Budget and other rising costs, a group of the biggest retailers in the UK is warning.

Tesco, Amazon, Greggs, Next, and dozens of other chains are urging the Treasury to reconsider some of the measures.

In a letter to Chancellor Rachel Reeves, they said the “cumulative burden” of the Budget changes, and other policies already in the pipeline, would amount to an additional £7bn in costs next year.

A Treasury spokesperson said the government had had to “make difficult choices to fix the foundations of the country”.

Measures in the Budget, in particular a rise in the tax that firms pay on their staff’s wages, have been met with a tide of criticism from business, who argue it will hold back growth.

But concerns have been loudest among retailers and hospitality businesses, where many young people find their first jobs. Firms in those sectors are also facing higher costs from next year’s rise in the minimum wag

Hong Kong jails 45 pro-democracy activists after accusing them of trying to overthrow the city’s government
picture hole

Forty-five pro-democracy activists have been jailed in Hong Kong’s largest ever national security trial.

The activists sentenced with jail terms ranging from four years to ten years were accused of conspiracy to commit subversion after holding an unofficial primary election in Hong Kong in 2020.
Hong Kong authorities say the defendants were trying to overthrow the territory’s government.

Democracy activist Benny Tai received the longest sentence of ten years. He became the face of the movement when thousands of protesters took to the city’s streets during the “Umbrella Movement” demonstrations.

However, Hong Kong officials accused him of being behind the plan to organise elections to select candidates.

Tai had pleaded guilty, his lawyers argued he believed his election plan was allowed under the city’s Basic Law.

TERROR: Sirens in Bnei Berak: Five injured, one seriously, by rocket landing in Ramat Gan
picture hole

Five people were wounded Monday evening from a direct hit by a Hezbollah missile when a missile landed in Ramat Gan; one is in serious condition.

Extensive damage was reported at the site of the strike and Magen David Adom is searching the area for any other injured.

The Israel Electric Corporation also reported that a high-voltage pole was damaged, causing interferences to the electricity supply in the adjacent streets.

The commander of the Central District of the Israel Police made a statement regarding the strike and clarified that it was not caused by shrapnel strike but a direct hit. “There is a risk of building collapse,” he added.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said, “After the review of the findings by the security forces at the scene in Ramat Gan, it appears that the impact was caused as the result of the interceptor that intercepted the surface-to-surface missile.”

“From an initial debrief of the IAF Aerial Defense Arrays, it seems as if the interceptor intercepted a surface-to-surface missile that crossed from Lebanon at a high altitude. The debris from the missile hit the ground, causing damage and injuries.”

“The entire incident is under examination,” said the IDF.

Lebanese official says Hezbollah agrees to US ceasefire proposal with ‘comments’
picture hole

A top Lebanese official told Reuters Monday that Lebanon and Hezbollah have agreed to a US proposal for a ceasefire with Israel, but have some comments on the content, describing the effort as the most serious yet to end the fighting.

There was no immediate comment from Israel.

A truce would come some two months into an Israeli offensive against the Iranian-backed terror group, which has attacked Israel daily since last October. Since the offensive was launched, Hezbollah has seen its leadership devastated and its arms supply greatly reduced.

Ali Hassan Khalil, an aide to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, told Reuters that Lebanon had delivered its written response to the US ambassador in Lebanon on Monday, and confirmed that White House envoy Amos Hochstein was traveling to Beirut to continue talks.

Hezbollah endorsed its long-time ally Berri to negotiate over a ceasefire.
