Many of those detained are long-time residents, sometimes entire families, whose mobile phones and laptops were confiscated as part of the investigation. The regime’s suspicion has raised alarm across the global Jewish community regarding the safety of those held. Usually, the Jewish community in Iran has a somewhat protected status, and community leaders often publicly show loyalty to the regime. Despite intense summer heat, the event was well-organized: men and women’s lines moved efficiently, with NYPD providing security, and volunteers distributing water, fans, Tehillim, and Maaneh Lashon booklets to help visitors cope with the conditions.

| IDF soldier killed in combat in northern Gaza |

An Israel Defense Forces soldier was killed during fighting in the northern Gaza Strip on Sunday, the military announced. The slain soldier was named as Sgt. Yisrael Natan Rosenfeld, 20, of the 601st Combat Engineering Battalion, from Ra’anana. According to an initial IDF probe, Rosenfeld was killed by an explosive device during operations in the Kafr Jabalia area. The 20th soldier to be killed in fighting since the start of the month, Rosenfeld moved to Israel from London with his family 11 years ago. He is survived by his parents and three siblings. Rosenfeld’s death brought Israel’s toll in the ground offensive against Hamas in Gaza and in military operations along the border with the Strip to 441. |
