UK weather: Yellow warning for fog issued by Met Office |
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for fog, which covers a huge swathe of England and parts of Wales. Fog is expected to develop through Wednesday evening and overnight – and will be “dense” with “visibility below 100m” in some places, forecasters have said. The weather warning stretches from Exeter and Cardiff up to Hull, covering cities including Oxford, Peterborough, Birmingham and Lincoln. The Met Office website states: “Some of the fog will tend to thin and lift into low cloud across parts of southern England and the southeast Midlands by dawn, but is likely to persist in a corridor from southwest England through the rest of the Midlands to Lincolnshire and Yorkshire until late morning.” The warning is in place until 11am on Thursday. |

Moscow ‘planned terror attacks’ on airlines across the world |
Donald Tusk has claimed that Russia has planned terror attacks in the air against Poland and other countries. “The latest information can confirm the validity of fears that Russia was planning acts of terrorism in the air not only against Poland,” he said without providing details or evidence. It comes after security officials claimed that parcels that exploded at logistics depots in Europe were part of a “test run” for a Russian plot to trigger detonations on cargo flights. The explosions occurred in depots in Britain, Germany and Poland in July last year. Russia has denied involvement – and Tusk did not mention them specifically. |

Israeli official says hostage deal reached, Trump becomes first leader to confirm |
Israeli and Hamas officials have confirmed a deal to cease hostilities and facilitate the release of both hostages and Palestinian prisoners. According to sources briefed on the negotiations, the agreement will pause fighting in Gaza and begin the phased release of individuals held by both sides. Hamas confirmed the deal, and reports suggest the initial phase will involve the release of 33 hostages, as listed by Hamas earlier this month. A BBC source added that the deal followed discussions between the Qatari PM, Hamas negotiators, and Israeli representatives in Doha. US President-elect Donald Trump has also expressed that the hostages will be released soon. Earlier concerns over the Philadelphi Corridor, a strategically crucial area on the Gaza-Egypt border, reportedly caused delays in finalizing the deal, but this issue has now been resolved. The details of the agreement are as follows:
The deal marks the end of 467 days since the October 7 attack. |
