The plane carrying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Oslo for the funeral of the king of Norway was nearly struck by a drone when taking off from Moldova yesterday, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere tells public broadcaster NRK. “His plane was almost hit by a drone as it was about to take off from Moldova. That is the reality he is facing,” says Stoere, who does not say what his source was for the information or how close the drone came. Officials in Moldova make no comment on Stoere’s statement regarding Zelensky’s plane. Arrivals and departures at Chisinau airport were suspended for a time yesterday in connection with two Russian drones that entered Moldovan airspace. Several flights bound for the capital landed at airports outside Moldova or were forced into holding patterns, according to data from Flightradar24. One drone landed in a field, triggering a fire, while the second carried on into Romanian airspace. Moldovan President Maia Sandu denounced the intrusions as a “serious threat to people’s lives” and also condemned an attack on a border crossing with Ukraine that killed two people. Zelensky attended the funeral of King Harald V of Norway today, marching behind his coffin along with other heads of state in central Oslo. He left Norway soon after the funeral was over. |

| Sa’ar speaks with UK’s far-right Nigel Farage, thanks him for slamming settlement sanctions |

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar posted that he spoke to Nigel Farage, leader of Britain’s far-right Reform UK party, to thank him for opposing sanctions on West Bank settlements imposed by the UK government. “I thanked him for his and his party’s support for Israel,” Sa’ar writes. “He told me he was pleased to have addressed the Reform Friends of Israel event at the party conference in Birmingham last week, and assured me unequivocally that, in government, Reform UK would reverse the damage done to the UK-Israel relationship by the Labour Government and its policies.” Britain’s government announced yesterday a ban on imports from Israeli settlements, accusing settlers of “ethnic cleansing” through a surge of attacks on Palestinians. France and Canada also said they were imposing trade curbs on Israeli settlements. In response, Farage says a Reform government “would undo the damage caused by Labour.” But he also says that he raised with Sa’ar the issue of the Falklands, the British islands in the South Atlantic over which Argentina’s President Javier Milei has stepped up his country’s claims. “I emphasized the Falklands issue to him and its importance to the British people, though I understand Israel’s relationship with President Milei,” Farage says. Various Israeli leaders and commentators, including far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, have called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to recognize Argentinian sovereignty over the Falklands in retaliation for British sanctions. |

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party accuses Haaretz and Democrats party leader Yair Golan of allowing “blatant foreign interference in Israel’s elections” in the wake of an article in Haaretz alleging that the United Arab Emirates warned the premier ahead of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks, and did not act on the information. It also calls for a criminal investigation against Golan and the journalists who wrote the story. The Likud statement posted by Netanyahu does not cite any evidence for its claims, including allegations of Golan’s involvement in the article’s publication. It alleges that the report was politically motivated. The statement claims that exiled senior Palestinian official Muhammad Dahlan, who allegedly was involved in the reported conversation between UAE President Mohamed Bin Zayed and Netanyahu, is “interested in toppling the right-wing government led by Netanyahu because he dreams of taking control of the Gaza Strip.” “To do so, he needs a weak left-wing government of Eisenkot, Yair Golan, Lieberman and the Arab parties,” Likud claims. “Such a government would withdraw from Gaza and hand it over to his control.” The party says, without citing evidence, that the journalist Shlomi Eldar, who broke the story about the conversation, “received payment from a left-wing nonprofit associated with Yair Golan’s Democrats party, to spread his blood libel.” Netanyahu’s party also raises the possibility, again without evidence, that Golan and former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar’s recent reported visit to the UAE could be connected to the Haaretz report. “Likud demands the opening of a criminal investigation against Shlomi Eldar, Ruth Yuval, the newspaper Haaretz, Yair Golan, and the Democrats party,” says Netanyahu’s post, “due to suspicion of attempting to disrupt the elections with foreign entities.” |

The Islamic Republic is close to defeat, claims Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking from the Mount Hermon summit in Syrian territory that the IDF has held since the fall of the Bashar Assad regime in late 2024. The premier adds that Israel will not let a “terrorist army” establish itself on the border, in an apparent reference to the buffer zone Israel holds in Syria. “We will not allow any terrorist army to establish itself along our border, and this is one of the greatest achievements we have accomplished in the War of Revival,” says Netanyahu, using the term he coined for the multifront war that followed the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks. There is more work to do, says Netanyahu: “The main task is to defeat the terrorist regime in Iran. We are very close to it. We know that the entire axis will ultimately collapse.” “We are committed to doing this, and we will do it,” he concludes. Israel and the US launched a war against the Iranian regime in late February, but fighting between Israel and Iran largely stopped in April. The US and Iran have continued to exchange fire.
