Operation “Rising Lion” kills top Iranian generals and nuclear scientists as yeshivos shutter, flights halt, and Jews get stuck worldwide By The Jewish Blast Staff | Motsaei Shabbos, June 14 2025 Israel launched a bold and sweeping wave of airstrikes on Iran late Thursday night in what officials are calling “Operation Rising Lion” (“Am K’lavi”), a mission designed to stop Iran’s nuclear ambitions and deter its growing aggression in the region. Dozens of senior Iranian military figures and nuclear scientists have been reported killed, including IRGC Commander Hossein Salami, nuclear physicist Fereydoun Abbasi, and deputy commander Gholamali Rashid. Explosions were reported across Tehran, Kermanshah, and Lorestan, while Israeli and Iranian jets clashed directly in the skies above Tehran — a nearly unprecedented development. Iran responded by launching rockets at Israel, including a barrage that tragically killed one Israeli woman and wounded at least seven others. With the situation rapidly deteriorating, Defense Minister Yisrael Katz declared a state of emergency throughout Israel. He warned of incoming waves of Iranian retaliation and ordered the entire population to follow Home Front Command and remain in secure areas. Ben Gurion Airport suspended all flights by Thursday night, and air raid sirens sounded across Yerushalayim. The IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir called up tens of thousands of soldiers as war loomed over the region. Gedolei Yisroel Respond “This is clearly the Yad Hashem,” one maggid shiur in Bnei Brak told The Jewish Blast. “We’re not in control, and we have to daven.” Jewish Travellers Stranded Across the Globe Among them were Lelover chassidim who flew in for a spiritually uplifting Shabbos near Meron. Many were diverted or stuck in Larnaca and had to make urgent last-minute arrangements. “This was supposed to be a quick trip,” said one yeshiva bochur stranded in Cyprus. “We had no idea the world would change overnight.” One woman flew to America for just 24 hours, leaving her three-week-old baby in Israel — she now finds herself stranded, unable to return home. Kallahs, chassanim, and wedding guests from both Israel and abroad can’t travel to chasanas due to flight closures, as airspaces over Israel and parts of Iran remain shut. Rav Yitzchok Yosef, the Rishon LeTzion, is reportedly stuck in Rome, while Rav Asriel Auerbach was diverted to Cyprus, both now likely to remain untill Ben Gurion will open again. Plans for simchos, shidduchim and family events have been thrown into disarray. Trump: “The Next Strikes Will Be Even More Brutal” Posting on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Iran missed its chance. Just make the deal.” In comments to Fox News, Trump also confirmed he was aware of Israel’s plans in advance and reaffirmed America’s support for Israel’s right to defend itself. Outlook: Uncertain Days Ahead Gedolim are calling for increased tefillah, Torah and achdus, as Jews find themselves scattered and stranded — but spiritually united. “This is not just about Iran and Israel,” a rebbi from Ashdod told us. “It’s about Klal Yisroel and what Hashem wants from us right now.” |
