Starmer ‘disappointed’ about Trump steel tariffs and says ‘all options on the table’ |
![]() |
Sir Keir Starmer has said he is “disappointed” to see Donald Trump impose global tariffs on steel and aluminium. In his first remarks since the American president imposed the levy, the prime minister said the UK will take a “pragmatic approach” as it seeks an economic trade deal with the US and “all options are on the table”. Asked if he will fly out to Canada to stand with it “against Trump’s threats”, given it has borne the brunt of Mr Trump’s trade war, Sir Keir said the country is “an important ally” but did not commit to a visit. |

Rubio: Anti-Israel activist’s arrest ‘not about free speech’ |
The arrest of a pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel activist does not contradict the US administration’s stance on defending free speech, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says. “This is not about free speech,” Rubio says when asked if the weekend arrest of Mahmoud Khalil clashed with US President Donald Trump’s championing of the right to express opinions in the United States and in Europe. “This is about people that don’t have a right to be in the United States to begin with,” Rubio tells reporters at Ireland’s Shannon Airport during a refueling stop after a trip to Saudi Arabia. Khalil, a recent graduate of Columbia and one of the most prominent faces of the university’s high-profile protests, was arrested by US immigration officials even though the university’s student union and his lawyer said he held a Green Card allowing permanent residency. “No one has a right to a student visa. No one has a right to a Green Card, by the way,” says Rubio. “When you come to the United States as a visitor, which is what a visa is, which is how this individual entered this country — on a visitor’s visa -— you are here as a visitor,” he says. “We can deny you that if you tell us when you apply, ‘Hi, I’m trying to get into the United States on a student visa, I am a big supporter of Hamas,’” he adds. |

Air Canada Flight Screen Labels Israel ‘Palestinian Territory ‘ |
![]() |
Israel was referred to as “Palestinian territory” on the in-flight map screen of an Air Canada plane, Israel’s N12 reported Tuesday. Images of the screen went viral on social media, with one user writing, according to the Jerusalem Post: “A passenger snapped this photo on an Air Canada flight from Vancouver to Toronto today, showing that the airline’s map no longer includes Israel,” a pro-Israel account posted on X. “@aircanada Care To Explain?” The airline responded that the system was managed by a 3rd party entity. “Air Canada has been made aware of a display issue with the interactive map on the IFE systems of its B737 aircraft,” the airline’s X/Twitter account responded. “The issue has affected other carriers using the same system, and we are working with the third-party provider on a remedy.” |

Israeli hostage negotiating team to remain in Doha as talks continue |
![]() |
Israel’s hostage negotiating team will remain in Doha tonight, an Israeli official tells The Times of Israel. There was a possibility that they would return this evening. Citing a Palestinian source, the Kan public broadcaster reports that the US is pushing a 60-day ceasefire in return for the release of 10 hostages. If that does not work, the US could work to free only the US hostages. One — Edan Alexander — is alive, and another four have been killed. An Israeli official pushes back on the reports on the US ceasefire proposal, saying that the negotiating team “has not received at all any proposal for the return of 10 hostages in exchange for 60 days of ceasefire.” |
