The FBI is actively investigating whether the terrorist responsible for the deadly attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans early Wednesday morning has ties to the ISIS terrorist group. The incident, which claimed the lives of at least 15 New Year’s revelers and left dozens more injured, ended when the suspect was fatally shot in a firefight with police. Authorities have identified the attacker as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, a Texas native and former U.S. Army soldier. Jabbar, who was dressed in camouflage, full-body armor, and sporting a beard, opened fire on crowds before engaging in a shootout with police, wounding two officers in the process. Jabbar was carrying with him a Glock gun and a .308 rifle that had been reported stolen in New Jersey, according to Fox News, which also reported that four or five others are believed to have been involved in the attack. In the hours following the attack, four suspicious packages were reportedly discovered and detonated along Bourbon Street as part of an ongoing investigation into improvised explosive devices (IEDs), according to WWL. Meanwhile, WDSU reported that the truck used in the attack was rigged with explosives, though authorities have not confirmed that claim. Initial reports suggested that the vehicle had crossed into the U.S. from Mexico at Eagle Pass, Texas, two days before the attack. However, Fox News has since retracted that claim. ABC News reports that the pickup truck was rented through the app Turo, further complicating the investigation into how Jabbar orchestrated the attack. Authorities reportedly recovered an ISIS flag from the suspect, intensifying concerns about potential links to international terrorist networks. Investigators are now examining Jabbar’s background, including his military service uand any communication he may have had with extremist organizations. President Joe Biden said the FBI is investigating the “horrific incident” as “an act of terrorism” and that he has directed his team to ensure every resource is available as authorities work to “get to the bottom of what happened as quickly as possible.” The FBI released the following statement on Wednesday afternoon: Today, at approximately 3:15 a.m. CST, an individual drove a pickup truck into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing at least 10 and injuring dozens of others. After hitting the crowd, he exited the vehicle and fired upon local law enforcement. Law enforcement returned fire, and the subject was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two law enforcement officers were injured and transported to a local hospital. The subject has been identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas. He was driving a Ford pickup truck, which appears to have been rented, and we are working to confirm how the subject came into possession of the vehicle. An ISIS flag was located in the vehicle, and the FBI is working to determine the subject’s potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations. Weapons and a potential IED were located in the subject’s vehicle. Other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter. The FBI’s special agent bomb technicians are working with our law enforcement partners to determine if any of these devices are viable, and they will work to render those devices safe. The FBI is the lead investigative agency, and we are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism. We are aggressively running down all leads to identify any possible associates of the subject. | Gallant resigns from Knesset, denounces imminent bill to exempt Charedim from IDF |

Less than two months after being dismissed as defense minister, MK Yoav Gallant resigned from the Knesset on Wednesday evening, attacking the current government for undermining the security of the country even while insisting that he will remain a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ruling Likud party. In an announcement carried live on Israeli television, the senior Likud lawmaker recalled his decades of military and political service and took credit for destroying Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran’s military capabilities — while also stating that he takes responsibility, as the former defense minister, for the lead up to the October 7, 2023, Hamas assault and the current war. Gallant noted that he had spent “35 years in the Israel Defense Forces, a decade as a member of Knesset and minister in Israeli governments, including two dramatic years as defense minister.” “As a member of the Likud movement, I will continue to fight for the movement’s path,” he pledged indicating this was not the end of his political career and he would likely return to challenge for the party leadership. “My path is the Likud path, and I believe in its principles, trust its members and voters. Since I voted for the Likud party for the first time in my life and was a partner in Menachem Begin’s revolution, I have remained loyal to the movement’s national and ideological path,” he said. Gallant accused Netanyahu and his replacement as defense chief Israel Katz of endangering the security of the country by backing a law that would codify military exemptions for much of the ultra-Orthodox community. He said he was dismissed as defense minister this November because he refuse to capitulate on the issue and said he would not be a partner to Netanyahu and Katz’s efforts, charging that the enlistment of the ultra-Orthodox was a “military necessity.” Gallant asserted that while he still believes in the path and values of the Likud party, the government’s judicial overhaul was a “clear and immediate danger” to the country and noted that he had warned of this before the Oct. 7 attacks. |

| Pallet Of Cinder Blocks Fall On Yeshiva Bochur In Yerushalayim, Seriously Injuring Him |

An 18-year-old yeshiva bochur was seriously injured on Wednesday morning when a pallet of cinder blocks fell off a crane – hitting him on his head and upper body – at a yeshiva in Jerusalem. The serious incident occurred at the Netiv HaDa’at yeshivah in the Ramot Polin neighborhood of Jerusalem. The crane was at the area since the yeshivah is currently undergoing renovations. The bochur was evacuated to Shaarei Tzedek Hospital in serious condition, unconscious, with a head injury. MDA paramedics reported: “When we arrived at the scene, we saw the injured person lying near the construction site, unconscious and suffering from a serious head injury. We were told he was hit by a heavy object that fell on him from the construction site. We immediately provided life-saving medical treatment that included bandaging and stopping bleeding and transported him in an MDA intensive care unit to the hospital in serious condition.” United Hatzalah volunteers Moishe Wiener, Yochanan Shifman, and Avi Gottlieb stated: “According to the workers at the site – during renovation work at the yeshiva, a heavy pallet of cinder blocks fell from a crane on him and he was seriously injured. The initial assistance we provided him on site was for severe head injuries and injuries to his upper body.” Israel Police initiated an investigation into the circumstances of the incident and police investigators and forensic experts have begun collecting evidence and testimonies.
