AI could predict patients’ future health conditions, study finds
picture hole

Artificial intelligence (AI) could be used to predict the type of health conditions a patient is likely to develop in the future, a study has found.

The technology could be used to help doctors when it comes to monitoring patients or making decisions around diagnosis, researchers said.

The AI tool, known as Foresight, belongs to the same family of AI models as ChatGPT but has been trained using information from NHS electronic records.

It was developed by researchers from King’s College London (KCL), University College London (UCL), King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

North Korea Claims Progress in Developing Hypersonic Missile Designed to Strike U.S. Targets
picture hole

North Korea successfully tested a solid-fuel engine for its new-type intermediate-range hypersonic missile, state media reported Wednesday, claiming a progress in efforts to develop a more powerful, agile missile designed to strike faraway U.S. targets in the region.

A hypersonic missile is among an array of high-tech weapons systems that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un publicly vowed to introduce in 2021 to cope with what he called deepening U.S. hostility. Outside experts say Kim wants a modernized weapons arsenal to wrest U.S. concessions like sanctions relief when diplomacy resumes.

On Tuesday, Kim guided the ground jet test of the multi-stage solid-fuel engine for the hypersonic missile at the North’s northwestern rocket launch facility, the official Korean Central News Agency reported.

It cited Kim as saying the strategic value of the new missile with an intermediate-range is as important as intercontinental ballistic missiles targeting the U.S. mainland and that “enemies know better about it.” It said that a timetable for completing the development of the new weapons system was “set through the great success in the important test.”

Intermediate-range missiles possessed or pursued by North Korea are the weapons systems primarily aimed at attacking the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam, home to U.S. military bases. Those missile can also reach Alaska, and with a range adjustment they can be used to strike closer targets like U.S. military installations in Japan’s Okinawa Island, experts say.

Terrorist Who Planned Kidnapping, Murder of Teens Arrested at Shifa Hospital
picture hole

During the IDF’s operation at the Shifa Hospital over the past few days, Mahmoud Kwasama, a senior Hamas official responsible for the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers in 2014, was arrested, Arutz Sheva reported.

As part of the Shalit deal in 2011, Kwasama was deported to the Gaza Strip, where he directed Hamas terrorist activities including shooting attacks in Yehudah and Shomron.

In June 2014, he was involved in the planning and financing of the terrorists who abducted and murdered Gilad Shaer, Eyal Yifrah and Naftali Fraenkel, which sparked Operation Protective Edge.

Reacting to the arrest of the terrorist who organized the kidnapping and murder of their son, Bat Galim and Ofir Shaer said, “A decade after the loss of our dear son with Eyal Yifrah and Naftali Fraenkel, we congratulate the arrest of the terrorist who planned the abduction and murder of our dear boys.

“Our joy comes from catching our enemies who wish to harm us, from our choosing life, and from the fact that they won’t harm more Jews. The existence of the people of Israel and its eternal life are the greatest joy, the parents emphasized.”

Kwasama was transferred to the Shin Bet (ISA) for interrogation. The released a statement which stressed “the Shin Bet and the IDF will continue to act against those who harmed, kidnapped, and murdered Israeli citizens, even as the years pass.”

First-Ever Houthi Cruise Missile Breaches Israeli Air Defenses
picture hole

The IDF confirmed the breach of Israeli airspace by a cruise missile launched by Houthi terrorists from Yemen. B’chasdei Shamayim, the missile landed harmlessly in an open area close to Eilat on Tuesday night.

The IDF’s Air Force successfully tracked the trajectory of the missile.

These terrorists, backed by Iran, have made repeated attempts to target Israel since Oct. 19, using a variety of missiles and drones. However, Israeli defense systems or U.S. naval forces stationed in the Red Sea have intercepted or diverted all previous attempts before they could breach Israeli airspace.

On Nov. 9, the Houthis launched a ballistic missile toward Eilat, which was intercepted by Israel’s advanced Arrow 3 hypersonic anti-ballistic missile system, marking its first operational use.

In December, the Houthis issued a threat to target any ships bound for Israel in the Red Sea, regardless of their ownership.

Operating from bases along the Yemeni coast, the Houthis have been targeting and harassing ships passing through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a critical maritime passage between the Arabian Peninsula and Africa. This strait serves as a vital route for much of the world’s oil trade, linking the Indian Ocean to the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean Sea.

These attacks have compelled several major shipping companies to reroute their vessels around the African continent, disrupting the crucial global trade route connecting Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

Additionally, on the same day, the U.S. military’s Central Command (Centcom) announced that naval forces in the Red Sea successfully intercepted and destroyed seven anti-ship missiles, three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and three weapons storage containers in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen in self-defense. Centcom emphasized that these weapons posed an imminent threat to merchant vessels and U.S. Navy ships in the region.

Ben Gurion Airport’s Terminal 1 Set to Reopen in May
picture hole

In response to the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the summer season, the Transport Ministry announced Wednesday plans to reopen Terminal 1 at Ben Gurion Airport by the end of May. The terminal, which had been closed since the outbreak of the war in October, is being reinstated to accommodate the increasing demand for air travel.

Recent data from the Israel Airports Authority (IAA) indicates a steady rise in passenger numbers at Ben Gurion Airport, with numerous airlines resuming flights to and from Israel. Over 60 airlines are expected to operate flights to more than 100 destinations during the summer months. Among the airlines that have resumed operations are Wizz Air, Air India, United Airlines, ITA, Brussels Airlines, Air France, Ethiopian Airways, flyDubai, Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, and Swiss.

The closure of Terminal 1 had prompted concerns, particularly among carriers like Ryanair, which announced last week that it would delay renewing flights to Israel until October 2024. This decision was attributed to the inconvenience of utilizing Terminal 3, which incurs higher fees for airlines.

Currently, Ben Gurion Airport sees approximately 35,000 passengers daily, a figure that is projected to double to over 70,000 per day during the summer season.
